Feasibility study for Chernivts: more energy efficient buildings

On the 3rd of July, 2015,  iC presented the draft final report on the Feasibility Study on Energy Efficiency Improvements in Public Buildings in the city of Chernivtsi. This event took place at Chernivtsi City Council with the participation of the City Mayor, respective employees of City Council,   representatives of parents’ committees of schools and kindergartens, facility managers of educational and medical institutions and representatives of local businesses. 33 public institutions, including 15 kindergartens, 16 schools, colleges and high schools, as well as policlinic and children’s hospital were selected for the project.

The project “Energy efficiency in public buildings of Chernivtsi” will be funded by  NEFCO (Nordic Environment Finance Corporation),  which will provide loan to the city, and  by the grant of E5P fund (Eastern European Partnership for Energy and the Environment). It should be noted that the project is supported by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).

The Mayor, Alex Kaspruk, opened the presentation: “Despite the difficult situation in the country, the City has set an ambitious goals, aimed to change the quality of life of city dwellers, to improve the  comfort level of the children in kindergartens and schools,  and well being of visitors in medical institutions, whiere energy efficiency measures will be implemented.

More information about the benefits of this project was provided by Michael Reidlinger – Project Manager of iC consulenten. He informed, that positive impact of this project will feel  about 14 thousand children and teachers, and 23 thousand of patients and disadvantaged people. The most convincing argument of the correct approach of this project was presentation of the calculations of economic indicators: annual savings will amount to at least 600 thousand EURO per year at the total investment amount of 9 million EURO.

Within the project our company  provided the following services: energy scans of buildings, development of EE measures, calculation of financial indicators,  social economic assessment, financial impact on the  city budget,  training of personal on energy management,  conceptual design development,  as well as development of the procurement and project implementation plan.
