6th Energy Day becomes a success!

12 November 2015

“Energy democracy: national choice, individual responsibility” was the topic of the 6th European-Ukrainian Energy Day, organized by the European-Ukrainian Energy Agency (EUEA). It took place on the 5th of November 2015 in the Premier Palace Hotel, Kyiv. iC consulenten participated in this event as a partner and sponsor, together with GIZ, Arzinger, Weiss, Vestas and ABB Ukraine.

During the last 6 years, the Energy Day became well known and the most significant annual event in Ukrainian Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy field. Always an interesting and intense program with substantial and relevant content for all energy professionals, lawmakers, developers, SMEs and major corporations, IFIs, NGOs, international donors and entrepreneurs, operating in Ukraine. This year’s Energy Day was focused on the national energy democracy, which means “a political, economic, social and cultural concept that merges technological energy transition with strengthening of democracy and public participation. This concept is connected with an ongoing decentralization of energy systems with energy efficiency and renewable energy being used also for energy ownership transition”.

iC actively supported the event and Elena Rybak, Managing Director in Ukraine and EUEA Vice-Chairman of the Board, was a moderator of one of four Panels, “Residential Energy Efficiency: exposing the Iceberg”. During the panel participants discussed tackling EE potential in the residential sector; evaluating first successful steps in project implementation, bridging the gap between known and unknown and many more hot issues. Vitaliy Shapovalenko, iC Energy Efficiency and Institutional Expert, presented the study performed for GIZ project “Establishing Municipal Energy Agencies in Ukraine”. The study was covering barriers on the way to energy efficiency reforms and ways to address them. The panel concluded: people believe that the barriers in the residential sector will be addressed and progress will be much more visible in one year to come.
