10 production facilities in Lviv will receive investment plans

12 March 2018

In January 2018, Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) launched a private sector investment initiative aimed at increasing quality of waste water treatment and energy efficiency at enterprises within the city boarders of Lviv. This initiative is part of NEFCO’s long term commitment to improve the overall environmental situation in the region, which via the watercourses is directly connected to the Nordics.

In frames of this initiative up to 10 enterprises will benefit from the free of charge customized investment plans aimed to identity the most cost efficient investments into energy efficiency and/or water treatment. The development of the investment plans is financed by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). The investment plans will be prepared by iC consulenten and CES clean energy solutions GesmbH and will include descriptions of the possible investments into resource efficiency with the focus on waste water treatment and energy efficiency, cost benefit analysis of the investment and recommendations regarding most feasible investment plans.

In parallel, the project “Advisory Services for Energy Efficiency in Companies” implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development is offering additional capacity building activities and trainings to the companies aiming to increase their energy efficiency of production processes.

GIZ project together with Lviv city council held a workshop on March, 6 – “Energy efficiency, resource efficiency and fulfilling environmental standards for industrial waste water treatment” where the companies learnt more about opportunities for cooperation with NEFCO and GIZ. Energy Efficiency Networks were presented as a concept and companies heard the best energy efficiency case studies from various industries and learnt what they needed to do to make their production processes more efficient.

During the workshop, experts have shared their experience and the latest trends in resource efficiency. Michael Reidlinger, Managing Partner of CES clean energy solutions described the approaches and criteria for the development of the investment plans in detail.

Josef Dörfler, Industrial Waste Water Expert of CES clean energy solutions explained the technologies and measures required to modernize the waste water treatment facilities within the production processes. He also reminded participants that the European Water Association anticipates that by 2030 the  global demand for water is expected to grow by 50%. This will require new approaches to wastewater collection and management. Reusing wastewater may help address challenges like food production and industrial development.

Lviv enterprises are the only ones so far to benefit from such a joint initiative of GIZ and NEFCO. Only 10 companies will be selected to participate in Learning Energy Efficiency Networks and receive the free of charge investment plan.
