Project objectives

The La Colosa gold mining project is located at the eastern flank of the Central Cordillera (Northern Andes) and is wholly owned and developed by AngloGold Ashanti Colombia S.A. For further exploration and resource calculations a detailed structural geologic model is required.

Project description

Gold mineralization at La Colosa is controlled by geologic structures. Field observations and drilling data have to be analyzed, in order to determine the geometry and magnitudes of these structures and to elaborate a detailed 3D structural model.

Project data

Currently, the La Colosa project is the largest gold mining project in the northern Andes. The planned open pit will reach a slope height of more than 800 m.

Project specifics

The area is characterized by a complex tectonic-structural history. The 3D model will have to account for these complexities which arise from superposition of deformation events and the formation of new structures during each deformation event.

iC consulenten was asked by AngloGold Ashanti S.A. to conduct the structural study, which includes field work, drill core logging and a detailed 3D modeling of the planned pit area.
