Project objectives

The purpose of the project was to provide pro bono consultancy services for the energy assessment of two buildings in Ukraine for the purpose of improving UNHCR’s programming and supporting people affected by the war in Ukraine:

  • A “typical” private house in a rural region of Ukraine, which can be used by IDPs but requires minor repairs.
  • A “typical” public multi-storey administrative building that can be adopted as a Collective Site for IDPs or renovated for a social function.

Project description

Comprehensive thermal insulation of building envelopes, replacement of windows and doors, modernization of heating systems and heat sources, ventilation systems, modernization and implementation of renewable energy sources were analysed and calculated accordingly. The indicators of energy consumption, GHG, potential energy and costs savings, investments and payback period have been calculated per measure/scenario.

Project data

For each of the buildings, an energy-efficient renovation scenario was proposed based on the current Ukrainian legislation.

Project was implemented on pro bono basic as a part of iC Ukraine`s efforts to contribution in supporting Ukrainians affected by wars

Services iC

Provision of energy assessment services for two buildings. As part of the assignment, were also prepared:

  • Presentation of the results to the UNHCR technical team in Ukraine;
  • Preparation of a slide presentation summarizing the results;
  • Preparation of a short report summarizing the methodology, findings and recommendations;
  • Preparation of a presentation at the UNHCR-led Shelter Cluster meeting.
