Project description

The study “Green Reconstruction of the Residential Sector of Bucha” aims to answer the question: what investments will Ukrainian municipalities need for residential reconstruction projects and what are the payback periods?

Using the example of Bucha as a case study, the report provides a detailed answer, describing various scenarios for the restoration of damaged single-family and multi-apartment buildings in terms of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. For these scenarios, the necessary capital investments were estimated and payback periods were determined under different tariff policy conditions.

Project data

The scope of the assignment comprises 127 multi-apartment buildings and 1,940 individual buildings analyzed. Damaged buildings have been divided into 5 building groups. Calculation / simulation scenarios have been provided for each group separately.

Project specifics

It is one of the first projects in Ukraine to estimate the required capital investment into the restoration of the damaged housing stock with a detailed gradation by energy efficiency scenarios.

  • Collection of the data necessary for further modelling / calculation of baseline buildings, and site visits;
  • Modelling/calculation of baseline building scenario for each of the building groups (before full-scale invasion): final/primary energy consumption, energy efficiency class, GHG emissions, energy costs etc.;
  • Modelling/calculation of improved building scenarios for each of the building groups: final/primary energy consumption, energy efficiency class, GHG emissions, energy costs, financial indicators etc.
