Project objectives

The objective of the Mekong IWRM Project is to improve the enabling framework and capacity for integrated water resources management (IWRM) in the Lower Mekong Basin through a combination of regional, transboundary and national activities. The assignment consisted in developing a results-oriented monitoring framework for this project

Project description

The consultancy included all steps of development of the monitoring system from conceptual design to implementation, including consensus building among the stakeholders involved. The system is designed to monitor progress towards the achievement of the project objectives by introducing appropriate performance indicators and reporting systems.

Project data

The Mekong River Commission (MRC) was created in 1995 by the governments of the four Lower Mekong Basin Countries to promote and coordinate sustainable management and development of shared water and related resources of the Mekong river basin.

Project specifics

The main challenge was the complexity of the M-IWRMP project, with its large numbers of sub-components and stakeholders in four countries, two donors, and several other MRC programmes involved in project implementation.
