Step by step to a large-scale goal – providing housing for internally displaced people.
Within the framework of the the Neighbourhood Investment Platform (NIP) facility related action EU Support to Urgent Housing Needs for Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine, the arrangement of housing for IDPs continues. The mayor’s offices of five Ukrainian cities – Khmelnytskyi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lutsk and Chortkiv – with the help of iC consulenten technical experts have selected municipal buildings for the project, which will be reconstructed to meet the needs of IDPs. In total, the housing stock to be modernized in these cities includes several dormitories, a polyclinic and a lyceum.
The works and procurement will be carried out at the expense of the European Union, while the city budget will finance only the payment for housing and communal services and maintenance of buildings.
The projects are at the procurement stage.
The goal of the program is not only to provide housing for IDPs, but also to create decent living conditions. Therefore, among the planned modernization measures:
- works on modernization of building envelopes, including replacement of windows, minor restoration of facades, reconstruction of entrances to buildings, reconstruction of drainage system;
- installation of a heat pump for hot water supply;
- modernization of internal engineering systems, including lighting and sewerage;
- re-equipment of sanitary facilities, in particular, installation of toilets and showers on the floors, organization of kitchen facilities;
- repair of residential premises and change of their layout to small apartments, where possible;
- purchase of new furniture for kitchens, rooms, sanitary premises;
- organization of recreation areas;
- installation of renewable energy sources (photovoltaics to reduce electricity consumption or, alternatively, solar collector/heat pump for hot water)
- installation of ramps for easy access for people with disabilities.
The Project “EU Support to Urgent Housing Needs for Internally Displaced Persons in Ukraine” is implemented with support from Nefco, which is acting as implementing organisation under the Neighbourhood Investment Platform (“NIP”) for the action.
