The citizens’ movement concept within Aspern district in Vienna takes into consideration interests of all residents and in a unique way combines innovative methods implemented in the construction and organization of public areas:
- All road traffic participants have equal rights (the square of pedestrian zone is not less than of roads);
- Parking areas and garages are located alongside the Ring-Strasse (ring-road), which lies through the whole residential district;
- Within the district, the traffic is organized in one transport line only and the speed is limited to 30 km/h (attempt to reduce car traffic);
- Time to get to the parking area is equal to the walking time to public transport stations;
- Citizens have mobile applications, which help to understand their routes and behavior habits. This information is the basis for optimization of transport infrastructure;
- A transport laboratory operates in the residential district as well, which constantly processes collected information and applications from the citizens.
