Kryvyi Rih improves the environment with the modern solid waste treatment plant, which will be constructed in a few years within the frames of the city partnership with the EBRD. The respective land plot has been already designated. Currently, a Feasibility Study is being developed, where iC experts from Kyiv and international experts from specialized Austrian waste management consulting company from Vienna are involved.
Why will the plant in Kryvyi Rih be modern and as environmentally friendly as possible?
– valuable components of waste will be recycled and used in various fields
– it is planned to receive solid recovered fuel (RDF) to replace conventional fuel for industrial companies
– it is expected to generate technological compost material for reclamation of mining dumps, thereby reducing dust pollution in the air in the city
– and the main goal is to reduce the volume of waste for landfills in the city.
Earlier we informed that the first visits of iC experts for waste sampling have already been completed, the analysis of morphological composition has been performed. Our Austrian lead partners and Ukrainian colleagues visited Kryvyi Rih last week to discuss strategic issues in the project implementation based on previously obtained analytical and technical data, met with the city leaders, set priorities, received all necessary documentation from the city for further development of the feasibility study.
Irina Omelianenko, Project Coordinator, Deputy Managing Director of iC Ukraine noted during the visit: “The issues of environmental protection and solid waste management are especially acute for such an industrial city as Kryvyi Rih. That is why it is very important for us to join such a significant project for the city, apply the experience of our specialists to maximum advantage, support international experts and contribute to the further effective implementation of the project”.
