E70/E75 Motorway Belgrade, Bypass R251

Project objectives

The supervision under the FIDIC Red Book related to two works contracts. The road works on the 6-lane motorway through Belgrade comprised primarily pavement rehabilitation over a length of some 30 km as well as lighting and traffic signalling. The works contract for the bypass (app. 30 km) included pavement rehabilitation, traffic signalling, the rehabilitation and equipment of the Strazevica tunnel (length. app. 500 m), the stabilisation of three landslides and additional intersections.

Supervision of all works under the FIDIC Red Book; assistance to the Serbian roads administration regarding the works contracts; review of design; approvals of contractors’ works programmes, sub-contractors, bonds, insurance coverage, design/shop drawings; site inspections and regular monitoring of work programme, quantities, quality of materials and workmanship; preparation of partial provisional acceptance and final acceptance certificates.

Project data

The Serbian motorways and roads network has been severely affected by war damage and has suffered from the lack of investments resulting in heavily deteriorated sections of the network. Two sections of crucial importance for both the traffic in and through Belgrade and the regional traffic on Transport Corridor 10 are the motorway E70/E75 and the bypass R251 Bubanj Botok – Vinca. Earthworks in both sections amounted to some 120,000 m³. In total 5,500 m³ of concrete were required for structures including the new tunnel lining and some 120,000 tons of asphalt

Project specifics

All construction and rehabilitation works had to be performed under full traffic; in some sections local diversions were necessary.

Services iC

The consortium of iC (as lead firm) and the Slovenian company DDC was selected to carry out the supervision of works according to the FIDIC Red Book. The service contract related to two works contracts (E70/E75 motorway and R251 bypass Bubanj Botok – Vinca) which were concluded between the public Serbian roads adminstration and international contractors.
